Our September quarterly meeting was a fun event as we gathered both in person and via Zoom to hear our youth board present two charities. We welcomed new members as well as special guests from each organization who gave us a deeper insight into their work.
Inspired by one of our dear members who lost her fight with breast cancer, the first charity presented was Redefined Courage, a non profit organization that offers practical help to women post-mastectomy through gifts, such as the Hope shirt. This one-of-a-kind shirt is designed to help women heal in comfort.
The other charity presented was Long Island Against Domestic Violence, an organization which provides safe shelter, education and counseling for people who are escaping domestic violence situations. Because domestic abuse has increased dramatically during quarantine, our youth board was passionate to help this organization as they do this important work.
In the end, LIADV was chosen by the membership, and $1635 was sent to support them at this critical time. As well, a few of our members donated to Redefined Courage in Paula’s memory, raising an additional $250 – this will provide four Hope shirts to women who need them.
We are grateful for the support of our faithful membership!
